We would like to thank David Carmichael and all of the staff at the J. Frank Gaudet Tree Nursery for their assistance in 2017 & 2018 through the Provincial Greening Spaces Program. We were able to plant 350+ native seedlings (consisting of: sugar maple, white birch, yellow birch, white ash, eastern white cedar, white pine, red pine, white spruce, red spruce, eastern hemlock, eastern larch, as well as native shrubs- red osier dogwood, aronia prunifolia, spiraea latifolia, and spiraea tomentosa ). We are happy to say that all but a few survived into 2019. Due to the length of the hot dry spells, we lost a few trees that we just couldn’t keep watered enough.
Thanks to Cindy, Jim, Felicia, Shawn, Rob, James, and to all the other volunteers for your help getting them into the ground! If there are any screw-ups with the white and red spruces, we’ll know who to blame, right Jim? LOL
We have been adding trees every year, but we would have never been able to afford so many trees on our own (or had the time to transplant that many) without the help of the Greening Spaces Program. GSP is a tree planting program for Island communities, schools and volunteer interest groups through the PEI Government Department of Communities, Land and Environment.
